Reflections of the North BOM
An 11-month Block of the Month with two seasons to choose from – Northern Winter or Northern Summer. If you live in the North, you know that there really are only two seasons with sometimes fleeting glimpses of spring and fall! Each quilt version features 9 unique blocks in a beautiful, subtle northern setting all framed by simple pieced borders that reflect on images symbolic to living in a north location – no matter how ‘north’ you are!
The Northern Winter version is stunning in its white, dark brown and taupes of the rocks and mountains peeking from beneath falling snow. It brings thoughts of the subtle beauty of a winter’s day, the joy of long days skiing, hockey games and family skating on frozen ponds and the unique outdoor activities that we embrace – ice fishing and winter camping. For those that enjoy a cold winter’s day, whether from inside or out know the enjoyment of a steaming cup of hot chocolate and floating, marshmallows that bring such warmth and joy to our souls.
The Northern Summer begins at the first sign of the beautiful robin that brings with her the budding trees, green grass, sounds of insects, birds and frogs – the reawakening of the north world. The refreshing beauty of our many lakes, rivers, the woods and forests. As a child we lived for summer vacations, friends, picnics, cottages, boats, canoes, summer camps and bare feet; camp fires, sing-alongs, and roasting marshmallows and don’t forget that S’mores! Please notice that I did not mention the mosquitos or sunburns! Reminiscent of the colours and symbols of what the warmer weather brings to our life in the north.
