March 2008 Welcome to Border Creek Station's newsletter! With Border Creek Station growing as it is, it seemed that the natural "next step" should be a newsletter to our quilting friends. This monthly newsletter will be about quilting, interesting tidbits of information and of course, more quilting. To receive an email copy of our monthly newsletter please subscribe here. I hope you will enjoy keeping in touch and being part of the happenings at Border Creek. I really wanted to begin this first newsletter with something catchy like…“Has the writing on bottles become smaller or is my eyesight going?” And yes, there will be more on that later but in the meantime I want to share some non-quilting news. In December our much beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Katie, became very ill with cancer and just before Christmas we had to say goodbye. She was extraordinary and the house is empty now. For those who have lost a beloved pet you know what I mean. Yes, we do also have three kitty cats, (Oscar being the most famous one as he is pictured in Quilt magazine), but they too were missing Katie.
Now back to eyesight. Yes, my eyesight is beginning to show its age. My arms are just not long enough anymore. After purchasing those drugstore glasses (as recommended by the optician) I have to say that I love them. So I also bought a stronger pair as the magnifying glass makes hand and machine appliqué a lot more accurate. I love appliqué and you will be seeing more of it in the next few patterns that will be coming out. So this item I have added to my “Things You Gotta Have” list. The BCS Mystery Quilt Club is well underway with this year’s Mystery Club project Quilter's Crossing. All Mystery Club members are busy working through their monthly installments and trying to guess as they go. If you missed the opportunity to be part of this fun Club, check the Quilt Shops listed to find a Host Shop near you. Our newest pattern is now up on the website! Plum Sweet is a darling little quilt that makes a wonderful table topper or wallhanging at 37” x 37”. With its simple appliqué it makes a great project to debut any fabric. The first sample was completed in an assortment of Moda’s Kansas Troubles fabrics. You can check out the additional samples in our Gallery that were made by Testers Jennifer and Martha for additional ideas of fabric combinations.
Happy Quilting! I am off to sew some more.
